Math: Students are in rotations for math. They are expected to keep track of their assignments and tests. If you have any questions, let me know and I can talk to the other teachers.
Writing Workshop: We are writing fiction stories. The trait of Ideas has been our main focus. Students are working hard on adding more detail and revising their stories. They are due on FRIDAY.
Social Studies: We will finish our unit of study on Mesopotamia this week. Students will build a class ziggurat showing all of the amazing things we have learned. The title page for the country report is due FRIDAY.
Spelling: Take Home Tasks are always due on Friday morning. This week we will be working on adding a suffix to a word. Each planner has a page for misspelled words. When we pass back the word tests each student writes the words they missed on this page. Study these words in addition to the five new words introduced. This week's words are: fresh, lead, train, break, drive.
Vocabulary: In addition to our weekly words students will also have content words from science. Our weekly words are: gaunt, materialized, pried, miniature, and versions.
Reading: Our fantasy novels come to an end on Monday. We will spend the remainder of the week working on strategies for reading non-fiction. Our next novel will be from the mystery genre. Don't forget that sixth graders need to be reading 40 minutes per night to earn a 4 on report cards.
Science: Microorganisms can make us sick, but can we live without them? Your student will be able to answer this question for you by the end of our next unit. I will be teaching all of the sixth graders about protists. Mrs Shreeve covers monerans, and Mrs. Engel will teach about fungus.
Thanks for all you do for Park Lane and your student!
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
